born in 1958 in East Berlin, is a radio host, cultural scholar, theatre director, and independent cultural producer. After completing secondary school in 1976 and serving his compulsory military service in the National People’s Army (NVA), he chose to study cultural studies over physics. In 1988, he earned his doctorate at Humboldt University in Berlin with a dissertation titled »Culture and the Masses – A Methodological and Conceptual History Study«. Until 1989, he worked for the »Association of Visual Artists of the GDR«, and in 1990 he co-founded the eastern edition of the taz newspaper, where he remained until 1992. From 1993 until the end of 2007, he hosted the legendary radio show »Sprechfunk« on the Berlin station Fritz. Since November 1996, he has also regularly given his so-called “video clip lectures” under the title »From Mainz to the Memel« at the Volksbühne Berlin. Jürgen Kuttner lives and works in Berlin.
