Irina Rastorgueva, born in 1983 in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Russia, studied philology at Sakhalin State University and worked as a cultural journalist for various Russian magazines and radio stations. From 2006 to 2015, she taught journalism at Sakhalin State University and published numerous scholarly articles on 20th-century literature and journalism theory and history. In 2011, she founded the cultural magazine »ProSakhalin« and served as a dramaturg at the Chekhov Theatre Sakhalin from 2011 to 2017. Since 2019, Rastorgueva has been working independently as a journalist and dramaturg in Berlin, contributing to outlets like »Berliner Zeitung«, »FAZ«, »NZZ«, and the magazine »Osteuropa«. Her recent publications include »Das Russlandsimulakrum: Kleine Kulturgeschichte des politischen Protests in Russland« (2022, tr: The Russiasimulacrum: A Brief Cultural History of Political Protest in Russia) and »RUSSEN/BRECHT. Ansichten zum politischen Theater zwischen Stalin und Putin« (2022, tr: RUSSEN/BRECHT. Views on Political Theater between Stalin and Putin), co-authored with Thomas Martin.
