Helga von Loewenich
Helga von Loewenich, born in 1943 by the Bodensee, studied painting in Nuremberg and Munich and spent time in 1972 as a visiting student at the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem. Her further studies led her to Prague and Warsaw. Her artwork, primarily comprising watercolors, collages, and various color techniques, has been exhibited in cities across the globe including Munich, Nuremberg, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Kiev, and Prague, among others. A central theme of von Loewenich’s work is the visual dialogue with literary works, particularly those of Bukovinian poets, and music. She is a member of several art and literary societies and received the Rabbi Seligman Meyer Prize (Bavaria) in 1997 and the Honorary Medal of the City of Czernowitz (Ukraine) in 2018. She currently resides in Berlin, where she is a research associate at the Jewish Museum. In May 2023, together with Petro Rychlo, Helga von Loewenich published the documentary volume »Bukowinisch-Galizische Literaturstraße« (2023; tr: Bukovinian-Galician Literary Route), which can be read as a literary travel guide through western Ukraine and describes the stages of a long-term German-Ukrainian cultural project.
