Evans Chan

born in China and raised in Hong Kong, is a renowned critic, librettist and filmmaker. In his internationally recognized dramatic and documentary films – »To Liv(e)«, »Sorceress of the New Piano« – Chan explores the challenges confronting Hong Kong before and after its return by Britain to Chinese rule in 1997. »Raise the Umbrellas« (2016–2018) documents the 79-day massive democratic protests in 2014 when restrictions were placed on voting rights. Chan lives in Hong Kong and New York.
