Cymin Samawatie
Cymin Samawatie (Iran/Germany) was born in Braunschweig in 1976 and works as a singer, composer, pianist and conductor. She studied classical percussion, piano and voice at the Hanover University of Music and Drama and jazz vocals at the Berlin University of the Arts. In her trans-traditional approach to contemporary music, she interweaves global instrumentation and musical traditions with urban live electronics, multilingual lyricism and free improvisation in a witty, expressive and highly experimental manner. Samawatie has released her four most recent albums on the ECM Records label; all were highly acclaimed in Germany and internationally. Her works often address the brokenness of a world without a home and use spiritual and mythical motifs to formulate new utopias for mutually beneficial coexistence.
