born in 1962 in Cologne, studied German, comparative literature, Latin American studies, and theater at the Freie Universität Berlin. Since 1995 he has been working as a freelance translator of French and Spanish literature, translating works by Alan Pauls, Amin Maalouf, and Roberto Bolaño, among others. He is also a mentor at the Berliner Übersetzerwerkstatt and the Berliner Autorenwerkstatt and co-founder of the Weltlesebühne.
