Biography
was born in 1980 in Trinidad and Tobago, where she grew up. She published her literary debut novel »When We Were Birds« in 2023, which was honored as the winner of the 2023 OCM Bocas Prize for Caribbean Literature and the Author’s Club Best First Novel Award. In addition to her novel, recognized as one of the »UK Observer’s« Best Debuts and »The Economist’s« Best Books of 2022, she has published short fiction and non-fiction in various outlets like »Moko Magazine«, »Small Axe«, and »PREE«. Banwo is the 2023 recipient of the Eccles Centre & Hay Festival Writer’s Award and is currently penning her second novel.
The author lives in London.
