Ulrich Matthes is an actor. After appearing on several German stages, he has been a permanent member of the ensemble at the Deutsches Theater Berlin since the 2004–05 season. He became known, among other things, for his role as Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels in the film «Downfall» (2004). He has received numerous awards, including the Gertrud Eysoldt Ring, the «Actor of the Year» title from Theater heute twice, the Grimme Prize, and the Golden Camera, as well as the Federal Cross of Merit in 2022. From 2019 to 2022, he served as president of the German Film Academy. Ulrich Matthes lives in Berlin.
