Matthias Politycki is a writer regarded as «the adventurer of contemporary German literature» (Tagesspiegel) and as «one of the great artists of language» among German-language authors (Deutschlandfunk). He is a member of the Free Academy of Arts in Hamburg and President of PEN Germany since 2025. He has published novels, short stories, essays and poetry with Hoffmann und Campe since 1987. In 2025 the essay collection «Mann gegen Mann. Von alten und neuen Tugenden» (tr. Man Against Man: On Old and New Virtues) and the poetry collection «Meisenfrei. 99 Gedichte» were published. Matthias Politycki lives in Vienna.
