Wolfgang Ullrich is a cultural theorist and freelance writer. From 2006 to 2015, he was a professor of art theory and media theory at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design. His work addresses critiques of the concept of art as well as topics in the sociology of images and consumer theory, and he is a co-editor of the book series « Digitale Bildkulturen» (tr. Digital Image Cultures), published by Klaus Wagenbach. In «Memokratie» (2026, tr. Memocracy), he identifies a new illiberal form of government in which authoritarian politics is advanced through internet humor, deepfakes, and AI-generated images. Wolfgang Ullrich lives in Leipzig.
