Dear Audience,
We started the second day of the festival with five events. The book premiere of Meron Mendel and Saba-Nur Cheema’s essay collection “Muslim-Jewish Dinner”, moderated by Thea Dorn, marked the beginning of a remarkable literary evening.
“You can’t be “just” a novelist if you are from a country which is not considered the center of the world – you need to explain and not only dance with words. And yes, this makes you tired somehow” (Beata Umubyeyi Mairesse): On the Side Stage, V.V. Ganeshananthan and Beata Umubyeyi Mairesse spoke with Sonia Faleiro about writing as an emancipatory act of survival in times of overlapping catastrophes. The event was streamed and can be watched on our YouTube channel.
“Victory does not compensate for grief” – Yishai Sarid and Shelly Kupferberg found comforting words at ‘The Art of Writing’ about the power of writing post-October 7. Barnaby Metschurat read from the German translations of ‘Monster’ and ‘Schwachstellen’ (German translation by Ruth Achlama).
At “The Art of Non-Fiction”, Mary-Alice Daniel, Sonia Faleiro and Noo Saro-Wiwa spoke with Jennifer Neal about the many varieties of non-fiction.
The evening was crowned by a vibrant literary revue with contributions from Rumena Bužarovska, Diana Çuli, Barbara Delać, Lejla Kalamujić, Barbi Marković and Adelina Tërshani.
