Nina Six was born in Orléans in 1998. She is an illustrator and graphic novel author.
Her stories, characterized by fine lines and colorful watercolors, often revolve around childhood memories. Her debut »Les Pissenlits« (tr: The Dandelion) was published in 2022. The coming-of-age story of nine-year-old girl Nina is set in the summer of 2006, when Rihanna is at the top of the charts and France loses the World Cup final. The magic of the holiday retreat on a campsite in the south of France turns simple acquaintances into friendships and everyday life into an adventure. At the end of the summer, everything is different, and Nina has learned a lot about herself. In »La Mousse« (2024, tr: The Foam), the author examines the difficulties of puberty. Nina lives in a small town in the French provinces and is preparing to attend secondary school. She tries to conceal her still childish-looking body with loose clothing – but she can’t escape the mockery of her classmates. Her friend Camille has found other friends and so Nina is on her own. One morning, she senses a change for a reason: The weather meters are going crazy, and a strangely vibrant-looking moss has covered the town’s disused water pipe.
Six received the BolognaRagazzi Award 2024 from the Bologna International Children’s Book Fair in the Middle Grade Comics category for »Les Pissenlits«. The jury praised the book for its »… extraordinary use of color, brushwork, graphic design and narrative creativity (…)«. Six is currently working on a graphic novel about the life of British author Stella Benson (1892-1933), which is due to be published in 2025.
The author lives in Belgium.
