Sabaa Tahir
was born in the Mojave Desert, California, into a family running an eighteen-room motel. Immersed in an environment of fantasy novels, comic books, and music, her affinity for literature took root early on. Her educational journey led her to a career as a newspaper editor where she worked night shifts, yet her passion for writing persisted. During these nights, she began writing her »New York Times« bestselling series, »An Ember in the Ashes«. This series is not only her debut but also her significant work, setting her distinct position in the literary realm and earning translations into over thirty-five languages.
Tahir’s writing is characterized by intricate plot lines, engaging character developments, and a touch of the supernatural. As stated by the »Atlanta Journal-Constitution«, »This epic fantasy set in the Martial Empire has it all: danger and violence, secrets and lies, strong characters and forbidden romance and a touch of the supernatural.« Her aptitude for suspenseful writing was further acknowledged by Booklist in their Starred Review: »Tahir proves to be a master of suspense and a canny practitioner of the cliffhanger, riveting readers’ attention throughout… [Eine] [An] action-packed, breathlessly paced story.«
Her latest work, »All My Rage«, released in 2022, tells the story of Salahudin and Noor, two friends with Pakistani roots living in California, exploring themes of family, friendship, and resilience against adversities. It was awarded the National Book Award for Young People’s Literature 2022 and the Printz Award 2023.
The author lives in California.
