Monday, 15 May 2023, 7 p.m. ׀ Allianz Forum, Pariser Platz 6, 10117 Berlin
A Berlin-exclusive: on 15 May 2023 at Allianz Forum, Timothy Garton Ash will present his new book »Homelands: A Personal History of Europe« [German tr., Hanser Verlag, 2023] in conversation with Katja Gloger.
Timothy Garton Ash is passionate about Europe. Even before 1989, he did not want to accept the division of the continent. Until the very end, he has been fighting against Brexit. He has now written his very personal history of Europe, which begins in 1945 when his father was stationed as a soldier in Germany. In his book, he tells of friends like Václav Havel, recalls the fall of the Berlin Wall, recounts the war in Yugoslavia, the European debt crisis and refugee tragedies, providing a sharp, penetrating analysis of recent European history. The attack on Ukraine shows how desperately we need a free and united continent – no one makes a more convincing case for this idea than Timothy Garton Ash.
Timothy Garton Ash, born in 1955, is a Professor of European Studies at the University of Oxford and a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution of Stanford University. Additionally, he is a regular contributor to important international newspapers and magazines.
Katja Gloger, born in 1960, has been engaged in the study of Eastern Europe for over 25 years. She was a correspondent for the German news magazine “Stern” in Russia and the United States, and has worked as an author with a focus on international politics and security policy.
