Cristiano Cavina was born in 1974 in Casola Valsenio in the province of Ravenna, and grew up with his mother and grandparents, whose stories sparked an interest in literature. He studied at Scuola Holden, the writing school founded by Alessandro Baricco in Turin. His first short story was published in the anthology »Il quarto re magio« (t: The fourth Magus) in 2002. In the same year his two novels »Alla grande« (t: Great) and »Nel Paese di Tolintesàc« (t: In the village of Tolintesàc) were published, both of which, with cool humour, feature boys who grew up fatherless and also follow the life of grown-ups with awe and imagination. Both books were well received by critics and remained at the top of the bestseller lists for weeks. The author was was awarded the Premio Tondelli and the Premio Fenice Europa, amongst other prizes.
