Adriana Altaras is an actress, director, and author. Born in Zagreb, she then grew up in Italy, Switzerland, and Germany. She studied acting at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin. From 1984 to 1991 she was co-founder of the off-theater «Zum Westlichen Stadthirschen». She directs theater and opera productions in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland; she has received the Bundesfilmpreis and the Silver Bear at the Berlinale. In 2011 she published her debut novel «Titos Brille» (adapted to film in 2014), followed by «Doitscha» (2014), «Das Meer und ich waren im besten Alter» (2017), and «Die jüdische Souffleuse» (2018). She lives in Berlin.
