Dear Audience,

A quarter century of world literature – we are celebrating it with you this year!
For 25 years, the international literature festival berlin has been inviting audiences to experience great stories. With today’s opening, the festival once again belongs to you: to your curiosity, your enthusiasm, and your passion for literature. Meet your favorite authors, engage personally with both the icons and the rising voices of the international literary scene: more than 90 writers, over 200 participants, and the entire ilb team are excited to welcome you!

This year, Mexican American Pulitzer Prize winner Cristina Rivera Garza opens the festival with her opening speech »Breathing Together«. A greeting by Wolfram Weimer [Minister of State for Culture and Media] and music by Susie Ibarra complete the festival opening.

Launching the literary program in style, Alan Hollinghurst’s German premiere of »Our Evenings« with Martina Gedeck and Thomas Meaney follows directly afterward.

If you can’t be there in person, you are warmly invited to join the opening events via livestream or watch them later. The same applies to many other festival events: Livestreams | international literature festival berlin

A highlight of our anniversary year is our brand-new podcast – a first! With »Read, Read, Read«, we open a new chapter: immerse yourself in the history of the international literature festival berlin and relive moving moments from the past 25 years in intimate conversations with literary greats such as Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The podcast is now available on all major platforms.

We look forward to seeing you at the festival!

Yours,
Lavinia Frey
Festival Director
