Would you go through hell for your professor? Probably not – even metaphorically. But Alice and Peter, two students of analytical magic at Cambridge University, take a different view. In »Katabasis«, they descend to the underworld to bring their professor, killed in a failed experiment, back to the realm of the living. Kuang draws parallels between academic and fantastical damnation, weaving in a multitude of literary allusions.
