Visual design, textile design, printing techniques
Ahmadjan loves painting and drawing. His passion draws him away from his rural hometown—first to Kabul, and later, in 1972, to Germany. But starting over proves harder than expected. Amid war, displacement, and loneliness, Ahmadjan repeatedly finds his way back to life’s beautiful things: love and art. With warmth and humor, this graphic novel interweaves a Persian legend with the biography of the author’s father, offering a compelling glimpse into the history of Afghanistan.
What happens in the workshop?
Three activities are offered in smaller groups:
1) Visual design: A scene, an event or a personal interpretation from the book is depicted in a three-dimensional format. By using different materials, each participant can sculpt and tell a story
2) Textile design: Similar to haute couture, this workshop involves working with fabrics, beads, embroidery hoops and embroidery threads.
3) Print workshop: Using various printing techniques, such as blueprinting, scenes are selected in the book and photo collages are created
