Discussion, Reading, Q&A
Javier Zamora is too young to go with his parents when they leave their small village in El Salvador for the United States. At nine years old, he is entrusted to a coyote who is meant to bring him safely to them – a dangerous journey that will take several months. Along the way, the group of unfamiliar adults he travels with becomes an unexpected kind of family. This autobiographical account is told from the perspective of a child forced – like millions of others – to leave their homeland.
Content Note: This book addresses displacement.
