Efua Traoré: Children of the Quicksands

Text, Theater, performance

After her parents’ separation, 13-year-old Simi, a city girl from Lagos, is sent to spend the summer holidays at her grandmother’s house in the countryside. When Simi stumbles upon a mysterious lake full of quicksand, she begins to uncover her family’s secrets. What is the truth behind the legend of the missing children—and does her grandmother know more than she is letting on? Inspired by Nigerian mythology, this thrilling adventure novel weaves together three generations of a family split between city and country life.
