Cultural Policy against Mistrust

In Europe, distrust of publicly funded art and culture appears to be growing. Right-wing populist campaigns denounce it as » woke« or elitist, while progressive voices criticize its instrumentalization – partly the result of excessive agenda-setting they themselves have encouraged. Artistic freedom is under threat from several sides. What might a contemporary funding practice look like – one that protects diversity while helping to restore social and political trust? Olga Brzezińska, David Dilmaghani, Anica Happich, and Gitte Zschoch will discuss these questions with Julia Grosse and Philippe Bischof.
