Mahtab Yaghma is a poet, songwriter, and women’s rights activist. She was born in Neyshabur, Iran, and published two poetry collections before censorship forced her online in 2017. In 2019 she helped organize protests in Iran; in 2020 she emigrated to Turkey, in 2024 to Germany. From exile she continues her work, is committed to «Woman, Life, Freedom», and is part of the project «Weiter Schreiben» for authors from crisis regions. Her poetry combines Persian tradition with self-determination and human rights. Mahtab Yaghma lives as a fellow of PEN Berlin in Berlin.
