
Luisa Reyes Retana
Born in Mexico City in 1979, Luisa Reyes Retana is a writer, lawyer, and independent consultant for cultural professionals and authors. She pursued her legal studies at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law and the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM). Among other positions, she has worked at the Supreme Court in Mexico City and as a Cultural Attaché and director of the Cultural Institue at the Mexican Embassy in Berlin.
Her literary career began with the debut novel, »Arde Josefina«, which received the Premio Mauricio Achar in 2017. Her second novel, »Tu Lengua en mi Boca«, followed in 2022. Two new novels are slated for release this fall: »Mortis Causa«, a young adult novel on friendship, technology and medical ethics, and »Mal d Río«, which examines the limitations of Mexican environmental law and the agency of the more-than-human. Her writing draws from her creative practice, her legal background, and her consultancy work with creatives and artists. Her novels, essays, and poetry frequently explore themes of female self-assertion, feminism, and family, kinship and friendship. Luisa Reyes Retana resides in Berlin.
