born 1973 in Stuttgart is a translator, journalist, and critic. He studied Romance philology, philosophy, and comparative literature in Mainz and Dijon. He is primarily interested in collaborative processes of translation and the power politics of cultural and linguistic exchange. He has so far translated nearly 150 theatrical pieces, mostly from French and francophone dramatists, as well as nonfiction in the fields of sociology, philosophy, and performance theory into German. Since 2011 he has co-published the theatrical anthology SCÈNE – neue französische Theaterstücke together with director Leyla-Claire Rabih through the publishing house Theater der Zeit. In 2021 he initiated the online archive and website www.plateforme.de. Weigand lives and works as an independent culture journalist and translator in Berlin.
