»Oltre Babilonia« (tr: Beyond Babylon) is Igiaba Scego’s third novel. It tells the story of Zuhra, a bookseller in Rome, who sometimes gets into a muddle when she speaks Roman, because her roots are Somalian and her skin is dark. Mar also comes from Rome and is dark-skinned, with an Argentinian mother and a Somalian father. They don’t know each other, but both move to Tunis to learn Arabic. So begins an dizzying story in which languages, eras, and three different worlds - Italy, Somalia and Argentina - mix with one another.
