His mother dies immediately when the stone smashes through the wind screen. 11 year-old Kai is injured but able to leave the accident site and encounters a circus troop. He meets Samantha, a member of the group of teenagers who had thrown the fatal stone from the bridge just 24 hours ago. Quickly, radically and with wit, Helene Hegemann narrates the quest for truth and transcendence in a hollow, overwrought world in which individual self-realisation is the prime goal. One can no longer distinguish between appearance and reality. Life is a dream; body, imagination and love are only projections.
