ERSTE ERDE – EPOS is an experiment that combines what we know about our planet with literature and verse. Using various anecdotes and life stories as examples, the book explains the Big Bang, the creation of the earth and the evolution of humankind. We encounter astrophysicists, travel to a volcano in the Danakil desert and visit the discovery sights of ancient skeletons in Ethiopia. Schrott paints impressive pictures full of literary power - there’s no way to explore earth in a more beautiful way. ERSTE ERDE: EPOS poses a formal challenge, as well – Schrott uncapitalizes every word and does away with punctuation entirely. After his first performance in 2011, the author will be taking part in the ilb for the second time this year. “Surprisingly entertaining and illuminating” (Volkart Wildermuth, Deutschlandradio Kultur).
