Our world is characterised by increasing mobility and migration flows. How can it be realigned in the face of this development? What alternative constellations of affiliation and belonging exist beyond that of the nation state? How and in what context can human rights best be protected outside the state? How can societies become more inclusive and what role will democracy take in the promotion of international solidarity?


BERND PICKERT [D] is an editor for foreign affairs at »taz«. His specialty areas are the USA, Latin America, and human rights.


ULRIKE GUÉROT [D] is Professor of European Policy and the Study of Democracy at the Danube University Krems and founder of the »European Democracy Lab« [EDL] in Berlin. Her book »Warum Europa eine Republik werden muss! Eine politische Utopie« [tr. Why Europe Must Become a Republic! A Political Utopia] was published in 2016.

LORENZO MARSILI [I] is an author and co-founder of European Alternatives. In 2010, he initiated the »Transeuropa Festival« and co-founded, with Yanis Varoufakis amongst others, the »Democracy in Europe Movement 2025« [DiEM25].

MICHAEL ZÜRN [D] directs the research unit »Global Governance« at the Berlin Social Science Centre. The Professor of International Relations specialises in denationalisation and globalisation.
